"National award for 'PadMan' will inspire film makers to make movies on social causes" - Arunachalam Muruganantham

Coimbatore: Expressing his gratitude on bagging the Best Film Award for Social Issues at the National Film Awards for PadMan, Arunachalam Muruganantham on whose life the story is based on said " This award will inspire more to make movies on such social causes."

"Padman" is a movie based on the life story of Muruganantham which talks about his story of how he struggled to break the stereotyping of menstruation and to make woman understand the need for menstrual hygiene. 

Arunachalam Muruganantham is the inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad-making machine and is credited for innovating grassroots mechanisms for generating awareness about traditional unhygienic practices around menstruation in rural India.

He opined that youth should aspire to be job providers rather than job seekers. 

He also noted that the movie crew of PadMan was initially reluctant to make a movie that talks about women's menstrual problem, nevertheless once the film was released, it was well-received worldwide and became a huge success.

He also cited that this movie is an example and opportunity for youth to voice out their views on such issues.

Actor Sonam Kapoor who was part of the cast wrote on social media, "This is one for the books! Creating a movie around social issues always has its challenges."
